Gravity Wave

Hippity hop   the frog does plop     o'er the lily pads.

While traipsing through Alaska, our recordist set up their mics on a hillside a few miles beyond a lake named "Mosquito Lake." You may be surprised to learn there are no mosquitos on the recording, but it is true, there are no mosquitos, they had been distracted earlier.

It was a fine Spring day when our Intrepid recordist hauled their gear over to the hills west of Patterson, California. There was a spot where the hills opened up on either side. There was a stream chortling through the lush verdant vale and, in the bright morning, a variety of birds calling out to each other and making announcements.

Sure you do... The anticipation of the ever-so-slow clock... The joy of the recess bell... The mad rush out of the classroom... ten or fifteen minutes of freedom... ten or fifteen minutes of swings, slides, monkey bars and jungle gyms. Running around in circles bouncing giant red balls.

Clarence Pfricht was having a bad week. Everything was going wrong. Everything always goes wrong. Everything had nothing better to do than go wrong because if they didn't go wrong, they would only go worse.

The evening is an unchanging thing. The Earth spins us out of the sunlight and into the night and we pass through the luminal ombre of dusk to get there. And as we pass through the dusk the starts don't appear, they don't move across the sky... we, move beneath them as they shine in their seemingly infinite and unchanging poses.

Parallax, the song, works on a similar illusion. Is it in six time or four time? The count shifts as the beat is unchanging, sometimes counting six and four at the same time. Gerluz is joined by the Nouveau Guinea Ensemble to fill out he sound of this wild ride.

In this collection, Gerluz presents the music of Czech composer Antonin Dvorak. Beginning with the five movements of Dvorak's "Serenade for Strings Opus 22" that have been transcribed for a two piano duet, followed by the eight Humoresques.

The Nouveau Guinea Ensemble lightens it up a little with "Les Baricades Misterieuses" (Also known with the spelling "Les Barricades Mysterieuses")

The Nouveau Guinea Ensemble strikes again with their new piece "Transcendental Blues". Reminiscent of songs that can be heard in Slovakian dive bars, pour yourself a glass of absinthe and dig into these solid lyrics....

Gerluz plays twenty-one of Scott Joplins favorite ragtime pieces. While you might be familiar with some of these pieces, Gerluz plays each in his own way.

It's late October and the trees have all turned. Perhaps the last chance in the year for a barbecue. The warm afternoon had been taken advantage of and now you sit in the back relaxing.
